TOP 5 NIGERIAN FEMCEES...... THE LIST
A few weeks ago, music blog Notjustok posted a list of the top ten rappers of the moment on their blog. The list, highly controversial in nature, didn’t feature any female rapper. Why? Nigerian femcees, in general, are sleeping on a bicycle. The ones at the top yesterday, have either turned the music career into the OTHER job, or abandoned it completely. Maybe the lack of instant returns has contributed to this, but if consideration be put into the effort that their male counterparts put in before reaping form the rhyming seeds, the saying, what a man can do, a woman can do better, is heavily brought into question
God Bless the few femcees that have kept
true to the game, and the fresh ones, too. We hope they endure. Based on DELIVERY
STYLE, CATCHY AND VERSATILE FLOW, LYRICAL POTENCY, PUNCHLINES and WORDPLAY
ABILITY over the 2012/2013 period, we’ve
been able to compare & then compile a list of the best female Nigerian rappers
of the moment. Your favourite femcee may not be on this list, but no be we
cause am oooo. Consistency is a plus.
These are, the top 5 most gifted Nigerian
femcees
5. Kicking it off with number 5, is Zee…
Born Dzakeh Maria Ekpong,“ZEE” is a young
talent who made her debut early 2010. She is the true definition of a beat
killer. Her rap ability is awesome. She is blessed with the ability to pull off a Huge array
of punchlines and spit high def flows. Her incredible rap ability doesn’t get enough
credit. Listen to her single, Bring it back ft Boogey, and you’ll understand
exactly what we’re talking about.
Eva is what we like to call a no barrier
rapper. She can rap about anything. And literally, we mean anything. We also
like to call her the chocolate rapper. Her vocals are naturally erotic, her
punchlines r extremely witty and arguably, she commands more swag than anyother
female Nigerian rapper presently in the game. Back in 2012 she was signed to
Elee’s Trybe Recods 2.0 but unfortunately, the deal fell through. The Delta state
indigene, who released her 1st ever studio recording, ‘I dey Play’
in 2009, Eva has clearly mastered the art of rap music, evident in her first
body of work, the GIGO EP. Eva Alordih surely can rap, and we love her for that
Pryse is not A punchline queen. She is
THE punchline queen. The PH born choc city femcee is an intelligent rapper, and
an ace when it comes to wordplay, and hooking up MIND-BLOWING PUNCHLINES.
Princess Pryse Esindu was born and
raised in port Harcourt, Rivers state. She is a very talented Nigerian rapper,
and just like her labelmates, she’s ready to bring that fire with her music,
that will keep us both entertained and educated. Lyrics, wordplay and toughness
on the mic makes Pryse the great mc that she is
Splash is a dope indigenous rapper, yet she
still manages to deliver rhymes and verses which feel very authentic, original,
and most certainly entertaining. Her stream-like flow, makes igbo sound very
attractive and even if the listener has no idea of what she’s rapping about, it
still induces mega attention.
Splash is currently signed on to HMan’s AugustPee
entertainment, and debuted with the hit single Church Agbasa in 2012. Ever
since then, she has released and featured alongside a number of the industry’s
heavyweights. She loves rap, and we can only hope that she’ll stick around for
a long time
Born Yetunde Alabi, Sasha P is arguabLy
the most experienced rapper on this list, and one of the few femcees from her
generation, to still be active today
Sasha P may not always be as tight a punchliner as
some of the other rappers on this list, but what she does excel in, is her
high-level of consistency, the versatility of her flow, and her impeccable
delivery, which then leaves you wondering if any other femcee could have done
better with the verse. She is an extremely versatile rapper , can kill slow,
mid and high tempo beats ranging from
reggae, to hiphop, soul and other genres. We only wish her sophomore album,
Sasha Speaks, would drop sooner than later
She may not be a regular on your tv, but
don’t let her deficit of videos mislead you. Her bars on songs like Raingroove,
Bad Girl P, and Blackmagic’s Confam, tell a story. She is, just like she said,
the first lady of Nigerian hiphop, and number 1 on our list of the top female
rappers in the 2012/2013 period.
And that’s it. The top 5 Femcees of the
moment.
