TOP 5 MUSIC MARRIAGES GONE SOUR
Marriages gone sour. Don’t get the wrong impression. This is
not about the likes of 9ice and TonyPayne. No way. By marriage, we mean union,
and by union gone sour, we mean split ups. This feature focuses on the top5
unions in music that have, unfortunately, been shattered into smithereens. Don’t
expect to see Plantashun Boiz or Remedies on this list, because that’s kinda
old school, and we are trying to focus on the present age
So, ladies and gentlemen, Boys and Girls. Enjoy! These are The
top5 Music Marriages gone sour.

The first broken up couple
we’ll be taking a look, made kukere, ur waist, flavour, sexy mama and many more hit songs together. It’s Iyanya and D’Tunes.
Iyanya Onoyum Mbok simply known
as Iyanya, and Adesanya Doyinsola aka D’Tunes, worked together for 3 years,
producing hit after hit. The chemistry and talent were both evident, and they
propelled the Iyanya brand into the spotlight, making him one of Nigeria’s most
sought after artistes. But unfortunately, just like the other unions on this
list, it wasn’t made to last forever.
In March 2013, the duo
announced their split, with D’Tunes leaving to setup his own label, Difference
entertainment.
Verdict: Divorced. Good
together, and good apart

At fourth, we have Naija Ninja’s boss Sound Sultan, and ex
Naija Ninja, Sean Tizzle.
Back when Sean Tizzle was still a member of Naija Ninjas, he
was fairly unknown. All we heard him sing was WAYAAA and WAYAAA and WAYAAA..... And then he left, signed up with producer D’Tunes’ Difference
Entertainment, and dropped Sho Lee….
Sho Lee, was, and most definitely still is, a mega hit, and
even though Sean never claimed to have written the song, we never really expected
there to be any foul play, until Sound Sultan said so.
Apparently the original 'Sho lee' song belonged to Naija Ninjas. Sound Sultan wrote the song, and it was produced at the Naija Ninjas studio. Sean Tizzle took it to D'tunes, p(who was living in Iyanya's house at the time), leaving Sound Sultan in the dark. The beat was reproduced, voicing was redone, and then Sean packed his bag and left Sultan. Not very fair if u ask me.
VERDICT: Dissolution granted. Divorced . Couple are better
apart

In 3rd, we’ll Personally be visiting the Ile Ijo,
and we invite you to come chop my money. It’s PSquare and MayD
It’s not always easy for stars to make a star, but this time
it worked out. Peter and Paul Okoye, more popularly known as PSquare, announced
Akinmayokun Awodumila as a Square
records artiste on the 13th of May, 2011. He instantly became a star
with banging songs like the NBC banned ‘Soundtrack’, ‘Ile Ijo’, and his feature
alongside Akon, on Psquare’s Chop My money remix.
But sometimes, good things come to an end. On the 21st
of August, 2012, Square Records and Northside Entertainment CEO, Jude Engees
Okoye, announced that MayD was no longer signed to the label. According to the
official statement, MayD would no longer
be an artiste with the outfits due to irreconcilable differences. The outfits
even went as far as deleting MayD’s youtube account
Immediately after the press release, MayD was asked for his
side of the story, and he claimed that, at the time, he wasn’t even aware of the
split or that he had been booted out of Square records. He said that he had
just woken up, and had heard of the news, the same way everyone else did.
For a long time, square records refused to explain their
meaning of irreconcilable differences. It wasn’t until January 2013, that the
Psquare side of the story was made public. In a radio
interview Jude Okoye
said, and we quote
’We sign in artistes as our way of giving back to the
society, and by the time they become known, we let them be. However, when MayD
came in, he wanted more than that. He wanted to be Psquare. He wanted to live a
good life with cars and flashy things, all in a year, forgetting that it
took P square 8 years to achieve that.’

Verdict: Disolution grantedon the basis of irrelevant
requests. We would however appreciate a reunion on stage.

At 2nd place, is an Omo Baba Olowo, and an Omo
Baba Olowo promoter
Back in 2010, Mr David
Adeleke returned to Nigeria from the US. He met Asa Asika, and let him know that
he had plans to hit the Nigerian music industry big time. Asa offered his
services and David agreed to make Asa his manager. How did that turn out?
Pretty good. Davido was born and in no time, his career recorded amazing
success and he had become a mega superstar.
It was a perfect combination of music artiste and manager. The
hits came. The awards came, The money came too. And then…. Boom. Then came the
split.
HKN, Davido’s label, reportedly claimed that dropping Asa was
an executive decision, as many stakeholders believed that Davido required a
more mature manager, and stronger management.
Davido himself
disclosed that the main reason he parted ways with the young Asika was because
they had different views and issues, adding that they just had to go apart.

And what you’d expect to be the biggest music marriage gone
sour, IS the biggest music marriage gone sour. It’s the kokomaster, D’Banj and his once upon a time dearly beloved
producer, DonJazzy.
Once Upon a time may be the name of Mavin’s first lady’s
first album, but the term should mean something more than that to Don Jazzy.
Dapo Oyebanjo and Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as
D’Banj and DonJazzy respectively, both founders of the now defunct Mo’Hits,
were once seen as a joint product, that could not be separated for whatever
reason. But things change, and apparently, so did their relationship.
In March
2012, the duo announced the mo’hits dissolution and an end to an era that had
seen the mo’hits crew emerge as arguably the biggest music group in Nigeria,
and probably even in the whole of Africa. But it wasn’t just an end to only
Mo’Hits. Two friends. Two business partners. Two brothers. Had turned into
adversaries, that couldn’t stand each other’s presence ….. From leaked emails
to recorded conversations and semi-beef tracks, the separation proved to be a
messy one, with their dirty laundry fed to the eyes of the public.
The reported
cause of the split, varied from financial reasons, to a sudden lack of respect
for don jazzy and even interference from
D’Banj’s mum . Whatever the true reason was, it occurred at a time when fans
and colleagues were expecting the Mo’Hits crew to blossom into something yet
more powerful than what it was. A true international brand. The duo had
reportedly just been signed to Kanye’s Good music, and Don Jazzy had even
co-produced a song on JayZ’s album.
But the splitup was inevitable and no
international deal could stop it. D’Banj moved on to start up a new label DBR,
while Don Jazzy, recruited former Mo’Hits artistes Wande Coal, Dr. Sid and
D’Prince, signed on Kele Kele crooner, Tiwa Savage, and built a new fortress.
Mavin.
So, D’Banj and DonJazzy are history…. Or maybe not. Recent
events seem to give faint hope that a reunion may indeed be possible. D’Banj’s
music hasn’t been the same without Don Jazzy and likewise can be said in the
reciprocate. This is something that both parties are well aware of. But are
they willing to effect a change.
In an interview with PM news, a couple of months ago, when
asked if he missed Don Jazzy, D’Banj was qoted to have replied, quote ‘I really miss Don Jazzy and I
miss the whole Mo’Hits crew’ unquote.
Then in August, at the
stellar reception of D’Banj‘s sister‘s white
wedding, the two performed together for the first time since the split, and then
just a few days ago, DonJazzy supposedly jokingly tweeted’ #NowThatMikelScored
Maybe Mavin can change to Mo’Hits again.
Wishes!
VERDICT: Divorced. Papers signed, but reunion highly
possible, and likely. They need each other.
And that’s it. We just checked out the top 5 music marriages
gone sour. Some unions are till death, and some are not. But we should remember
to treat everyone around us well, while we can. You can never tell.
